History of nudism in Ibiza

The history of nudism in Ibiza goes back decades, when the island began to stand out as a pioneering naturist destination in Spain. The combination of a sunny climate, pristine beaches and an open mind attracted the first nudists looking to enjoy the sea and the sun in their most natural state.

Over the years, Ibiza became a refuge for those who wished to free themselves from social norms and restrictions, finding in its nudist beaches a space of freedom and tolerance. This tradition has survived to the present day, making the island an emblematic destination for lovers of naturism and tranquillity on the beach.

Ibiza's iconic nudist beaches

Here is a small guide to what to do and enjoy on these iconic beaches, how to get there, activities and the best beach bars and restaurants to make the most of the experience.

Es Cavallet Beach

Es Cavallet Beach

Es Cavallet is one of the most popular nudist beaches in the north of Ibiza, characterised by its blanket of white sand and the frequent sound of waves lapping against the shore.

One of the activities you can do while you are on this nudist beach is to visit its salt marshes. In addition, the winds from the east make Es Cavallet an ideal place for water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing.

In the winter months the beach offers the ideal climate to enjoy the scenery on a stroll. Along the shore of this beach towards the south you will find the Ses Portes defence tower.

Despite being one of the most frequented beaches, this beach has enough space for bathers to sit comfortably by the shore. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the parking area, which is limited.

In addition, the road leading to the site is narrow, causing traffic congestion in the high season months.

As for nudism, it is practised in the central area of the beach delimited by sand dunes and vegetation, which create a natural curtain that favours the tranquillity and privacy of nudists. It is worth mentioning that many of those who attend are members of the LGBT community from different parts of Europe.

Beach bars and restaurants in Es Cavallet

Walking towards the northern end of this beach you will come across Chiringuito, a place where you can enjoy delicious local dishes, as well as ice creams and cocktails. Further up the beach you will find a Mediterranean restaurant called La Escollera.

While towards the southern part of Es Cavallet you will find Chiringay, a small and cosy gay-friendly place to enjoy its Mediterranean gastronomy and relax on its Balinese beds.

How to get to Es Cavallet?

You can get here from Ibiza town or Playa d'en Bossa by car, bike or bus. If you come in high season and decide to park on the north side it can be a challenge to get a space, unlike if you come in low season.

If you come from the southern end, a good access would be through the car park located at Playa de Las Salinas, although you have to pay a fee for the space and then walk 20 minutes through a beautiful pine forest to reach Es Cavallet.

Ses Salines

Ses Salines Beach

With an extension of 1 kilometre long and 30 metres wide, Ses Salines is one of the nudist beaches in Ibiza that offers you everything you need to live this experience to the fullest. As part of the Ses Salines Natural Park, this beach is surrounded by immense protected dunes, as well as spaces with an abundant presence of tree species (pines and junipers).

Speaking of fauna, did you know that Posidonia oceanica is a famous marine plant found in some areas of this beach and that its presence is a seal of good water quality?

Furthermore, if you are a water sports enthusiast, you will be pleased to know that the waters of Ses Salines are ideal for water sports. You can also play paddle tennis on the net available on site or rent a velomar and set off on the adventure of cruising the beach aboard this leisure boat.

And to recover your energy after doing all this, you can lie down to rest in a hammock or under one of the parasols available for rent on site.

Fans of nudism will find their space for this practice walking 2 kilometres in the direction of the Torre de Ses Portes. There are some small coves among the rocks that offer the perfect setting to strip away everything and enjoy the sea in a totally natural way.

Beach bars and restaurants in Ses Salines

It is likely that after having had contact with the different elements that this paradisiacal place has to offer you, you will feel like having something to eat to recover your energy or you can do it before getting into the water.

There are several restaurants in Ses Salines where you can make a gastronomic stop. One of them is Malibu Beach Club, a place where you can have the opportunity to taste a wide variety of Mediterranean dishes and tropical drinks to complement them.

Another nearby dining option is Beso Beach Ibiza, with dishes that combine the best of Basque and Mediterranean cuisine to satisfy your palate and introduce you to new and interesting flavours. And if you go in the summer you'll probably be lucky enough to enjoy some of the different events held here with music as the main protagonist.

Jockey Club Salinas and Sa Trinxa are other options for good quality Mediterranean food that you can enjoy during your stay in Ses Salines.

How to get to Ses Salines?

Drive along the Ibiza-Airport road. Make sure you pass through the village of Sant Jordi. You should look out for the signs to Ses Salines and Sa Canal before you get to the airport so follow them. Or you can also take the route directly along the PM-802 road.

Es Racó d'en Xic beach

Es Racó d'en Xic beach

Also known as Cala Escondida, it represents another of the nudist beaches in Ibiza where you can have a good time if you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy the wonders of the sea in your Adam's suit. Despite its size, this place has a charm in its fine sand and crystal clear waters that attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Another point in favour of Es Racó d'en Xic is that, due to its west-facing position, it offers an excellent view of the sunset.

For this reason many people often stay late to capture this precious moment. In addition, the clear waters provide ideal conditions for diving and snorkelling enthusiasts to have the opportunity to dive in and explore.

At Es Racó d'en Xic nudism is also part of the dynamics of the place, although it is shared with those who are not enthusiastic about this practice. Even so, this has never been a reason to spoil the experience for both parties so that everyone can enjoy the place as they prefer.

Given the high popularity of this cove in recent years, it is advisable to arrive early so that you have a space to set up your towel.

Beach bars and restaurants in Es Racó d'en Xic

Here you will find a small beach bar called Cala Escondida, which has moved the original name of the place, perhaps to make it easier to find.

There, visitors can stop to sample delicious options made from fresh, local produce. Among these are the tacos, which include cochinilla pibil and chicken tinga. And for those on a vegan diet, this chiringuito offers Tex-Mex nachos, hot dogs and burgers prepared veggie-style.

On the drinks front, Cala Escondida serves great cocktails, as well as organic wines. It also offers natural juices that serve as an excellent accompaniment to the toasted bread served at breakfast.

How to get to Es Racó d'en Xic?

You have to take the road to Platges de Comte. Once there, go to the main parking area located about 100 metres to the left. You will notice the presence of some stairs that will lead you up to this cove.

Punta Galera Beach

Punta Galera Beach

A destination taken into account by lovers of nudism located in the north of Ibiza. It is presented as a stretch of smooth rock that over time has given way to the formation of several levels with flat terraces where it is possible to settle down with a towel to appreciate the landscape.

Despite being a reference point for the practice of nudism, it is not very popular. This is probably also due to the fact that there are no beach bars and there are no signs to get there.

However, it has recently become increasingly popular with young people, attracted perhaps by the tranquillity and beauty of the place.

Given the two and a half metre deep water along the entire length of the shore, negotiating the rocky terrain to enter will not be a problem. There are also some higher submerged rocks that allow the exit to the sea. There is no doubt that we are talking about a special place that deserves to be found.

How to get there to Punta Galera?

To get to Punta Galera take the road from San Agnes to Cala Salada. When you come to a turning on the left, take it. Once you have done this you will have to cover the rest of the stretch on foot.

Es Figueral Beach

Es Figueral Beach

Located to the north of Ibiza, Es Figueral is another of the nudist beaches in Ibiza that you cannot miss. It stands out for its soft sand and for being surrounded by rocky cliffs.

When you dive into its clear waters you will notice that they are shallow and rocky. Some of them rise above the surface where the largest of them all serves as the embarkation point for the ferry that takes passengers to Santa Eulalia, Formentera and Ibiza town.

Those who love nudism will have their space for this practice on the leftmost part of this beach.

Sunshades and sun loungers are some of the services you will have access to in Es Figueral. This beach is also accessible to people with reduced mobility and has public toilet areas.

In the surrounding area you will find some resort-type hotels that will provide you with excellent options to guarantee you accommodation that meets your needs and makes you feel at home.

Chiringuitos and restaurants in Es Figueral

If you are looking for a place to eat before or after returning from Es Figueral, there are a few options of restaurants and bars along the route leading to this beach where you can stop off.

One of them is Nudo, which offers a gastronomic proposal based on seafood dishes and natural wines as a complement.

Another restaurant you can visit here is Es Alocs, which offers you the best of the sea, prepared with a family cooking approach.

Those with a vegan lifestyle can indulge themselves at Esfigueral Restaurant.

But if you love Italian food, then FEEL IBIZA is the place for you. There you will find dishes with the best exponents of this cuisine.

How to get to Es Figueral?

If you come from San Carlos you have to go through the street behind the Bar Anita. From there you have to follow this road until you find the turning for Santa Eulalia. Take it and drive to the end so that you arrive at the entrance to the beach.
